I am working on a project related to using the noise recorded across seismic networks to determine the geological structures beneath the network. There is a result that has recently been recognized in the seismological community that the cross-correlation of very long noise signals from two seimometers is simply related to the Green's function between the two seismometers. This result means that one may do "seismology without seisms", and frees us from certain constraints on resolution imposed by the uneven earthquake distribution.
I am specifically looking to find signals in these noise cross-corelations that correspond to waves travelling beneath the Earth's crust and through the mantle.
